Inspiration: Smithers BC, Canada

Just returned from a trip up in Smithers BC, Canada (A 15 hour drive North from Vancouver). There was so much untouched raw nature to see! The mountains were truly inspiring.

I had an amazing time snowboarding one of the local mountains and checking out some back country areas out on our old retro sleds (complete with neon decals). During our sled up we came across some fresh moose tracks and also saw some eagles gracefully soaring above us.

On our decent down we passed an area of the mountain that was used in the recent movie The Grey featuring Liam Neeson. Fortunately for us there were no killer man eating wolves out to get us like in the movie. However we were lucky enough to see a rare wolverine but it was long gone by the time I got my camera out.

I highly recommend visiting Smithers, BC! There is so much to do! Click here for more information.

Thank you Meyer Family!

A little bit of knitting history: Red cross

A neat story I came across along with some vintage posters from the early 1900's and 1940's.

During World War I and again during World War II, the American Red Cross launched nationwide, volunteer-driven knitting campaigns to supply soldiers and war refugees with warm clothing. These volunteer knitters belonged to a Red Cross unit called the Production Corps that also produced bandages and sewn garments (such as pajamas) for veterans and civilian hospitals.

For more information on the rest of the story as well as some vintage knitting patterns of some of the listed items above along with sweaters, scarves and socks here.

Brand Feature: Pyrrha (Vancouver, BC)

From their Vancouver studio, using techniques that evolved from trial and error and a disregard for rules, Canadian jewelry designers Wade Papin and Danielle Wilmore craft the heraldic wax seal talismans that have become the Pyrrha signature......(more here)

The knowledgeable staff at a local clothing store I had stepped into had informed me that the beautiful pieces of jewelry were hand crafted locally. Each piece is made purposely with imperfections from the original wax seal molds, the overall finish of each piece has a subtle vintage appeal. My Pyrrha necklace and pendant gives my outfit that needed finishing touch.

Flamingo sweater- vivid accents

Remember when you were younger and worked down on the loading docks, cousin Vinny from uptown would come help unload the shipments with you? Remember? No? Actually we don't either.

Inspired by the vivid colours of the hit TV show in the 80's, a limited run of these sweaters was produced for a cartel destined for Japan.

The Hockey Sweater

Just received this in the mail, The Hockey Sweater book!

This story was an important part of my youth as I grew up watching and playing hockey. I believe this story is a vital part of our Canadian heritage as most of us can relate to this boy in some way regardless of what part of Canada we are from.

Watch the Hockey Sweater video here

The Hockey Sweater X Granted collaboration sweater coming soon?!

Let me know your thoughts on this wonderful story!
For example:

"I know if I had a Toronto maple leafs jersey I would want it eaten by moths!"

"I feel really, really sorry for this boy. He had to wear a maple leafs jersey, I hope he is ok."

"Umm , Go Canucks Go!"
